Elected and Elated: Taking Up the Reigns as the Next Chair of Social Media Day PHL

I truly believe in the law of attraction–the idea that you will attract into your life whatever you focus on.

In 2020, I was uber focused on a big positive change and a new adventure. (When the pandemic hit, it’s safe to say that most of us were.) Then, magically, toward the end of 2020 I was making a big move across the country with my family after getting an awesome career opportunity. We knew as soon as we arrived in Pennsylvania that it was where our family was meant to be.

But leaving friends and extended family behind to start a new job in a new state had its own set of challenges. So I set a new intention: I focused on finding a deep connection to my new community and the people in it. And wouldn’t you know it? The universe responded almost immediately.

Connecting with Philly’s Digital Comms Community

Social Media Day PHL exists to provide development and networking experiences for digital communications professionals in the Philadelphia area. When I got the call to be a part of Social Media Day PHL, it had just become a 501(c)(3) nonprofit and was forming its first Board of Directors. It was a chance to build upon something amazing and make a difference in people’s lives and careers. It was exactly what I was looking for.

And now, two years later, I have been elected to become the next chair of the Board of Directors, succeeding Cassandra Bailey, founder of Social Media Day PHL and CEO of Slice Communications. As the incoming chair, I will work closely with the talented and passionate Board of Directors to expand our membership programs, strengthen community engagement, and add even more value to the exceptional offerings this organization has already created for local communications professionals. I’ve always been passionate about sharing knowledge, giving back, and helping other people thrive, so this new role serves as the perfect platform to do just that. And I’m honored to lead the charge.

A Brief History of Social Media Day PHL

Originally launched by Mashable in 2009, Social Media Day was created to be a celebration of all things, well, social media. Then, in 2014, Slice Communications established its own version of the popular annual event.

In the following years, the conference grew beyond the annual event it once was. Social Media Day PHL is now the must-attend conference for communications professionals in the Philadelphia area.

Finally, in 2020, Social Media Day Inc. became a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting the development, growth, and education of communications professionals.

The energy of this organization is like no other. The members of the Social Media Day PHL community come from all walks of life. Students, entrepreneurs, business owners, and more–all welcomed with open arms. And there’s always the buzz of creative minds working together to make incredible things happen.

The belief is that with the right connections, enthusiasm, and support, the Philadelphia area can become a hub for digital communications professionals.

Beyond the Annual Conference

And it’s not just about the annual conference in June.

Social Media Day PHL brings together communications professionals year-round to learn, network, and celebrate the power of the digital space. The organization strives to provide an accessible, affordable learning experience for anyone from entry-level professionals to experienced strategists through programs such as Co-Mentor Connect, where we match strategists with practitioners for a year.

There’s also a variety of workshops and exclusive members-only content. We invite the most well-respected thought leaders and influencers to share their insights and strategies so members can elevate their skills.

That’s what’s so special about Social Media Day PHL—it brings people together to learn, share, and grow. We are committed to providing valuable resources, networking opportunities, and events that allow professionals to make meaningful connections with one another. The kind of connections that can make you feel grounded in your career and community. And when those connections come to life, there’s no telling what magical things the universe will unfold for you next.
